In Good Company : Aimee and Amanda @fettleandtinker

Welcome to this edition of In Good Company, where we love to meet and celebrate the people who inspire us. This month, we meet Aimee and Amanda — the duo behind @fettleandtinker — and learn more about what they love, how they spend their days, and the simple joys that shape their life together.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what a typical day looks like for you?
We are Aimee and Amanda, the creators behind @fettleandtinker where we share a blend of period home style, curated interiors, practical how to guides and gentle snapshots of our life together.
Our mornings begin slowly, with Aimee bringing up a tray of tea and coffee while we ease into the day. We usually head to the gym for a workout or a swim before settling in to work from home, with a nice local dog walk somewhere in the mix.
At the weekends Aimee always makes a banging breakfast. Then we love a mooch around a farmers market, art gallery, car boot fair or flea. Or meeting a pal for lunch or dinner at some tasty place we want to try.
We try to have a decent walk every weekend and always seek out a sweet treat and a good coffee because that is exactly what weekends are made for!

How would you describe your personal style in three words?
Aimee : Practical, Comfortable, Casual
Amanda : Relaxed, Playful, Earth-toned

What are some small things that bring you joy day-to-day?
Our little sausage dog Edie makes us laugh every single day. She’s super lazy, incredibly loving and she practically invented the side eye!
We get a lot of joy from our regular nature walks together, where we love to watch the seasons turn. We particularly love walking in an abandoned golf course and a walled garden near home.

What does “slow living” or “taking time for yourself” mean to You?
It looks like intentionally keeping a day aside every few weeks just for pottering about the house, or as we call it, fettling and tinkering. Time to slow down, enjoy the little things at home, make small, pleasing improvements and not feel the pressure to be anywhere but exactly where we’re at.

A book, film, or song you always come back to?
Song : We both love Gentle on my Mind by Glenn Campbell. Every line is perfect. It’s been a special song for us recently <3
Film : Carol. It’s just utter romantic perfection, the pace, the score, 1950s New York, forbidden lesbian love, and a smouldering Cate Blanchett ordering “Creamed spinach over poached eggs and a dry martini with an olive” - a woman who really knows what she wants.

Tea or coffee - and how do you take it?
Amanda’s is an earl grey with milk, Aimee’s is a black Americano.

If you could spend a weekend anywhere, where would you go and what would you do?
If it could genuinely be anywhere, a weekend in New York City. Walking, people watching and grabbing a deli sandwich and a pickle. Then getting dressed up for a cocktail in a basement bar.
Special thanks to Aimee and Amanda for taking part In Good company. We hope you loved hearing about them as much as we did.
